It will be the first commercial plant to produce CO 2 -free green ammonia from renewable resources in the UAE. This project is another important milestone for in the UAE’s shift to a lower carbon renewable energy future. It can also be used as emission-free transport fuel and in the fertilizer and chemical industries.

At the end of June, the US signed the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency ( IRENA ), thereby increasing the number of countries participating in the organization to 136. Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is the location for the interim headquarters of the new agency.

I would like to see IEEE engage more broadly with international organizations to provide technologists additional opportunities to contribute for the benefit of humanity. I spoke at the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP27) last year and will be speaking at COP28 in the United Arab Emirates in December.
