Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) announced that its hydrogen-based autonomous energy supply system H2One, which Toshiba ESS delivered and installed on the rooftop of Toranomon Hills Business Tower (Minato-ku, Tokyo), has started full-scale operation with the opening of commercial facilities.

The independent energy supply system combines a 25 kW photovoltaic facility; a storage battery; hydrogen-producing water electrolysis equipment; hydrogen (275 Nm 3 ) and water tanks; and fuel cells. Hydrogen electrical power storage capacity is 350 kWh. The results obtained will be jointly utilized by Kawasaki City and Toshiba.

Anticipating strong future demand, Toshiba Corporation will construct a second dedicated production facility for its safe, long-life, rapid charge SCiB battery ( earlier post ), in the Kashiwazaki Frontier Park, in Kashiwazaki city, Niigata prefecture. Construction is scheduled to start in April 2010, with a completion date of October 2010.

EnerDel believes its Hague Road plant is the first, and as yet at this time only, plant capable of achieving high volume production of transportation-grade, lithium ion cells within the US. EnerDel’s plant is immaculate, we ate lunch on the shop floor, and the cell production steps occur in isolated clean rooms within the plant.
