The BMW XM is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system comprising a V8 gasoline engine and electric motor that delivers combined fuel consumption of 1.6 – 1.5 l/100 km [147 – 157 mpg US] in the WLTP cycle; combined electric power consumption of 30.1 – 28.9 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle; and CO 2 emissions of 36 – 33 g/km in the WLTP cycle.

In a pre-response to that speech, having successfully advocated for plug-in hybrids like the forthcoming Chevy Volt, we propose that the President follow that speech up with a “realistic and conservative” roadmap to halve our oil use in 10 years. Oil is holding us all hostage, economically and physically. The good news?

It offers 18 models that deliver 30 mpg or more. It also offers eight hybrid models. You would be much better served doing a little investigative journalism (no offense intended) to determine the percentage of cars sold that get 30 mpg or better.
