The news that General Motors would relaunch the infamous Hummer name—as an all-electric truck no less—broke a few days before the high-dollar, high-visibility 2020 Super Bowl ad that introduced that vehicle to the world. Everything old is new again. As the first of GM’s new wave of EVs, it’s nothing if not bold.

Upcoming electric passenger vehicles and light trucks from GM get most of the attention, but its new commercial EV brand is a quiet and very serious push too. They’ve seen Super Bowl ads for the GMC Hummer EV , or heard news about the lengthy, painful Chevrolet Bolt EV battery recall. The Task Force ultimately agreed.

This revised plan also moves up the resolution of Saab, Saturn and Hummer to the end of 2009 at the latest. - During the course of the plan, GM will look to make significant investments in future products and new technologies with development and testing of the Chevy Volt to remain on track with production to start by the end of 2010.

"On some products, the costs, particularly in advanced technologies, are high," he said in a lengthy interview with Automotive News (free subscription required). They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc.
