The Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf earned the highest safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the first US crash test evaluations of plug-in electric cars. The Volt and Leaf earn the top rating of good for front, side, rear, and rollover crash protection.

New York City is adding 70 electric vehicles to its fleet: 50 new Chevrolet Volts, 10 fully electric Ford Transit Connect cargo vans, and 10 new fully electric Navistar E-star utility trucks. The Chevrolet Volt is the first electric car being used by the NYPD.

Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, which is expected to sell for $40,000 when it goes on sales in the U.S. GM plans to launch the Volt in China in 2011. and Korean golf cart maker CT&T Co. and Korean golf cart maker CT&T Co. Those prices are much lower than that of General Motors Corp.s in late 2010.

In addition to a recent electric car deal with NISSAN Motors ( NSANY ), Portland General Electric, the Oregon state governor and GE have also announced a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors ( MMTOF.PK ) to develop and sell the Miev electric car with 85 mile range by 2011. Duh, heres our $40K volt, buy it please?

Ted Kulongoski behind the wheel of Nissan’s prototype electric vehicle. At a press event on Monday, Oregon’s governor, Ted Kulongoski, was talking up Nissan’s previously announced partnership with the state. According to Nissan, the company plans to introduce its upcoming electric car in Oregon in late 2010.
