During the General Motors (GM) 2023 earnings call held this week, CEO Mary Barra said the company will be bringing plugin hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to North America—despite still being committed to going all-electric by 2035. Previously, GM also sold the Chevy Volt PHEV from 2010 to 2019, as well as the Cadillac ELR from 2014 to 2016.

It was a similar situation for the Chevy Volt, leaving the brand to lean on a cluster of normal-looking hybrids that were promptly forgotten. As of now, the company has not confirmed which models would become PHEVs. The Cadillac ELR was too weird and came via a marketing campaign that rubbed everyone the wrong way.

The 8 kWh battery pack for the new 2011 Buick PHEV crossover vehicle is prepared for testing at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan. GM is bringing back the Hummer brand as an EV within the GMC brand. Good examples of all-new electric cars are the Nissan Leaf battery-electric and the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid , which both debuted in 2010 as 2011 models. GM, shifting focus to pure EVs, built the last Volt on February 19, 2019. I’m hoping for the latter.
