There are already spaces in New York City and Los Angeles, and there are now two in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I’m located. The newest Polestar Space just opened in Silicon Valley, at the Westfield Valley Fair, 2855 Stevens Creek Boulevard, San Jose. There’s a second location in Corte Madera in Marin County.

A year ago Ford nabbed a significant endorsement from the Sierra Club for its limited edition Mercury Mariner hybrid (29/35 mpg - gasoline only) and a promise of 250,000 hybrids by 2010. At the same time, rumors swirl around GM and plug-in hybrids.

If you’ve been wondering just how real the new Chevy Volt that gets 230 mpg in city driving is , well just take a look for yourself. This one might actually get MORE than 230 mpg in the city seeing as how it has no doors, windows, seats, any interior, hood, roof, underbody or trunk. At least GM did a Disney display.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. When Lutz first proposed creating an electric car in 2003, the idea "bombed" inside GM, he says. "I todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet."
