GM opens new US$200M diesel engine facility in Thailand; first to produce new 4-cylinder Duramax diesels

General Motors opened a new diesel engine plant in Rayong, Thailand. The plant has the capability to manufacture approximately 120,000 engines per year for use in vehicles built in Thailand and other global markets. The new powertrain facility takes GM’s investment in Thailand to US$1.3 billion since 1998.

GM expands landfill-free efforts in Asia

General Motors’ Rayong engine plant in Thailand and Cheongna proving ground in Korea are now landfill-free , bringing the company’s total to 33 sites throughout Asia that recycle, reuse or convert to energy all of their daily waste. GM’s landfill-free facility count in Asia compares to 45 in North America and 22 in Europe.

Report: GM, Isuzu to start talks on another capital, business tie-up

The Nikkei reports that General Motors Co. will enter talks with Isuzu Motors Ltd. stake, and cooperates with Isuzu in its operations in Thailand. on a capital and business alliance aimed at launching joint projects for commercial vehicles in Central and South America. Toyota bought a 5.9% stake in Isuzu in 2006.

Taiwanese smartphone giant Foxconn reveals electric ute, global sales planned
