Designed to be flexible enough to meet the needs of a wide variety of OEM truck makers, the new fuel cell electric system in the latest prototypes has been adapted to a Kenworth T680 chassis. Port fleet rollout. Converting the drayage trucks that currently serve these ports to electric drivetrains would move us closer to that goal.

Southern California Gas Co. FXI) announced the addition of 11 new ultra-low emission natural gas trucks to the FXI fleet. million in grant funding for the new Kenworth T680 trucks ( earlier post ) which started making deliveries today. The purchase of 46 new trucks represents about 50% of FXI’s California fleet.

Gas and technology leader Air Liquide is also participating as a fuel supplier.

UPS has purchased another 48 heavy tractor trucks equipped to run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Manufactured by Kenworth, the LNG tractors are powered by Westport HD Systems and initially will pull trailers on a transit lane linking Ontario, Calif., to fuel the new fleet of 48 LNG trucks at the new Las Vegas station.

This is the first large-scale demonstration of zero-emission Class 8 trucks that involves major manufacturers, including BYD, Kenworth, Peterbilt (both Paccar companies) and Volvo. Full battery-electric trucks will be developed by BYD and a team consisting of Peterbilt and California start-up TransPower.
