Verizon has collaborated with electric-vehicle developer and manufacturer VIA Motors to produce an extended-range electric cargo van. The vehicles have up to 40 miles of all-electric range, using Li-ion batteries, with the added capability to drive additional miles by using VIA’s range extender.

The new Indy fleet vehicles will include 100% electric models, such as the Nissan LEAF, as well as plug-in hybrid models like the Chevrolet Volt and the Ford Fusion Energi, which offer extended range. The Indy fleet would be the largest municipal fleet of electrified vehicles in the US.
