The magnets—and thus the rotor—follow the rotating alternating current field in the stator windings. In the EQS SUV, Mercedes-Benz uses a pull-in winding for a particularly strong magnetic field. The motor on the rear axle is particularly powerful due to its six-phase design: it has two windings with three phases each.

Mercedes-Benz Cars plants in Germany to be supplied with CO2-neutral energy from 2022

In the future, 100% of additional purchased electricity will come from verifiable renewable sources, such as wind- and hydropower. In Jawor (Poland), a new CO 2 -neutral engine plant is being built. This corresponds to about three quarters of the required electricity in the German plants. The plant will start operating in 2019.
