Ford has revealed the 2020 Escape; the small SUV will make its first public appearance at the New York International Auto Show. Every model in the new Escape lineup, whether powered by one of two EcoBoost engines or the new hybrid powertrains, targets an EPA-estimated range of at least 400 miles per tank.

Ford has into a partnership with Johnson Controls-Saft (JCS) to develop advanced lithium-ion battery system to power Ford’s first production plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) beginning in 2012. Initially the cells will be produced at the supplier’s production facility in France, but the system will be assembled in the United States.

The 15 years in the future 2035 aspiration to stop selling gas- and diesel-powered vehicles is clearly a long way off and a lot can change in that timeframe. 4, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Audi Q4 e-tron, Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV, Ford Escape PHEV, and Lincoln Corsair PHEV have either become available or likely will be in 2021.

The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.
