Ford, Lincoln and Mercury retail sales increased 9% versus a year ago. Other results included: Ford Fusion sales totaled 17,610, a July record and up 66% versus a year ago, and Mercury Milan sales were up 60%. Ford Escape sales totaled 20,241, a July record and up 94% versus a year ago, and Mercury Mariner sales were up 71%.

Ford maintained its number two spot in the US market in May 2009, with Ford, Lincoln and Mercury reporting sales of 155,954 units, down 24.3% to 63,697 units; sales of crossovers were down only 9% to 35,582 units; sales of SUVs were off 37.4% The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted May sales of 10,091 units, down 32.8%.

Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 129,898, down 31% compared with April 2008. to 28,955 units; sales of SUVs dropped 60.9% In April, combined sales of all four Ford hybrid models—including the new Fusion and Milan hybrids—totaled 2,299, up 21% versus Ford’s hybrid sales a year ago (Escape and Mariner).

The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted January sales of 8,121 units, down 28.6% Light truck sales were led by the RAV4 compact SUV with January sales of 8,034 units, down 26.3% Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 90,596 in January, down 38.9% to 20,147; sales of SUVs fell 52.7% year-on-year.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Ford Escape PHEV-40 around 2012. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet." Batteries not ready.
