Hydro-Québec has joined a Ford-EPRI North America-wide demonstration and research program on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). EPRI has identified nine utilities across North America to test drive the vehicles and collect data on battery technology, vehicle systems, customer use and grid infrastructure.

Ford has into a partnership with Johnson Controls-Saft (JCS) to develop advanced lithium-ion battery system to power Ford’s first production plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) beginning in 2012. Ford’s current demonstration fleet of Escape plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) is using JCS Li-ion packs. Earlier post.).

The first tool is a six-page permitting template that can be adapted by local governments to help standardize permitting and inspection procedures for plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs) between different regions. Both tools will help accelerate the approval process for home charging stations.

The objective of the taskforce is initially to create a guideline for demonstration projects and design verification and later standardize in 2015 with field confirmation. This is necessary before a determination of charging frequency can be standardize and should include the second and third harmonic possibilities.
