Compared to battery-electric cars, plug-in hybrids face two challenges. First is that many car shoppers don’t understand how they work—and dealership salespeople may not be any better at explaining their benefits. Do drivers plug it in? Much of that may have been due to very attractive pricing offered by Stellantis.

Therefore, until we get quick-charge batteries -- based on new breakthroughs, Ill take a WAG and estimate that we will have real 5-minute quick-charge batteries in perhaps 10 years -- we are likely to get our juice mostly from our home chargers. That is the compact territory to which they are best suited.

Wired Home Subscribe Sections Cars 2.0 The Volt is, and always has been, more than than an electric car. Lutz, who retired earlier this year, called the car Detroits "moon shot" and an attempt to wrest the mantle of innovation back from the Japanese. I cant stand all these "GM killed the electric car" crap.

We also found magazines ( Utne Reader anyone?) I pulled an old issue of Sierra (the magazine of the Sierra Club) from July/August 1997. The USA got the leap on everyone else with solar, wind and other fossil free energy as well as electric cars and other alternative fuel vehicles.
