Since a fuel tax is pre-paid, if we go to a mileage tax, there will be a major shortfall of funds in all jurisdictions. Because a mileage tax would be post-paid. But a huge difference between refueling gas versus electric cars, is the centralized versus decentralized approach.

“Electric cars will not save the climate. This is not to imply in any way that electric vehicles are worthless. However, there has been public pushback over how to pay for the plan and its push to decrease personal driving by imposing a mileage tax. When it does, do not expect the public to acquiesce quietly.
