Areas of work being focused on by Volkswagen include the development of a high-performance diesel engine delivering 100 kW (134 hp) per liter of displacement and a new 10-speed dual clutch gearbox that reduces fuel consumption. Among alternative drive systems, plug-in hybrids in particular offer great potential, Winterkorn said.

In last week's seminars and presentations on the new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, GM discussed its 1.4-liter liter diesel model as well. But the company also suggested the possibility of a future Chevy Cruze Hybrid. Sometimes a few words can make all the difference.

The first four hybrid vessels will start to sail in 2013/14. Some 120 managers representing the entire maritime cluster gathered at a DNV seminar last week. The first hybrid offshore supply ship, will start to operate within a few weeks. Later on, Norled will install a battery package on board an existing diesel-electric ferry.

The Scrappage Incentive is in addition to the Used EV Incentive program that launched in April 2019, which provides $1,000 off the purchase of a used fully electric or plug-in hybrid electric car. In just nine months since the program began, Plug’n Drive has paid out approximately 300 incentives to Ontarians who have purchased a used EV.

It is far too early to dismiss the conventional diesel and petrol power trains. In the last two years Volvo has brought CO 2 emissions from our diesel and petrol model ranges down by 13 percent.
