Alpiq, EW Höfe and SOCAR Energy Switzerland are looking into the feasibility of installing an electrolysis facility with a capacity of up to 10 MW in Freienbach, Switzerland. In addition, the exhaust heat will be fed into the regional district heating network that is currently being established.

Based on a three-year study of toxic and environmentally relevant pollutants from gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines, Swiss researchers have concluded that some GDI engines emit just as many soot particles as unfiltered diesel cars did in the past. By contrast, diesel cars with particle filters exceeded the limit only 45-fold.

Bombardier Transportation presented its TRAXX AC locomotive with additional diesel engine plus traction battery at this year’s Transport Logistic trade fair, 4-7 June in Munich, Germany. Initial test runs are currently taking place on the public network in Switzerland. The locomotive complies with the exhaust standard stage IIIB.

A new study by an international team led by researchers from the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland has found that modern diesel passenger cars equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPFs) emit fewer carbonaceous particulates than gasoline-powered vehicles.
