At the production site for power electronics in Klasterec in the Czech Republic, ZF is opening its first zero- emission factory after a renovation period of just under a year and a half. Any electricity that isn’t generated internally is purchased from renewable sources – mainly wind and hydroelectric power.

Although they function unobtrusively, manual gearboxes have a significant share of the gearbox market worldwide due to a high installation rate. Only slight modifications were sufficient to improve efficiency and consumption. The trend towards vehicles from the SUV segment with large-diameter wheels places high demands on the gearbox.

As part of PACCAR’s international hybrid program, the DAF LF Hybrid truck was developed in close collaboration with Eaton, Eindhoven University of Technology and Leyland Trucks Ltd, also a PACCAR company. An electric motor is installed between the clutch and the gearbox, which can provide drive as well as functioning as a generator.
