Peugeot Releases Specs, Pricing Package for the iOn EV
The iOn with (1) Motor, (2) Traction battery pack, (3) Inverter and (4) On-board charger. Peugeot has released the specifications for the iOn EV—based on the Mitsubishi iMiEV ( earlier post )—in advance of the Paris Auto Show. Peugeot says that it will market the iOn based mainly on an “all-inclusive” mobility offer.

A plug-in Toyota Prius for less than a regular Prius?
Well, what if the plug-in Prius costs less than a conventional Prius? Now, I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but according to the MotorTrend article, the lithium-ion battery pack in the plug-in Toyota Prius actually costs less than the NiMH battery pack in the conventional Prius. Good for just 70 mpg?

What does the future hold for lithium-ion batteries?
Lithium-ion batteries could soon grab a significant share of the hybrid and electric vehicle advanced battery market according to one industry expert. Dr Menahem Anderman, the President of Advanced Automotive Batteries, believes that lithium-ion batteries could grow to represent 21 per cent of the advanced battery market by 2011.

Ford accelerates Li-ion battery research
One of the hurdles in the race to develop automotive Li-ion battery systems for high volume hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicle programs is improving the technology’s durability. Li-ion would be less costly than NiMH in large volumes - approximately 30 percent less expensive at an annual volume of 3 million hybrids.

Though only $878million of lithium-ion batteries are expected to be sold next year, by 2015 the industry could be worth nearly $8billion a year. BMW selects lithium-ion battery supplier
SB LiMotive, the joint venture between Bosch and Samsung SDI, has been selected to supply lithium-ion batteries for the upcoming Megacity vehicle - an electric city vehicle from BMW. The company hopes to produce a battery pack for around €350 by 2015 - that’s around two thirds of the current cost.
