Converting a gas appliance to a heat pump, for example, would draw 4 to 6 kW, while an L2 charger for EVs would be 12 to 14 kW. The city has provided incentives for the purchase of both EVs and charging ports, the installation of heat-pump water heaters , and the installation of solar and battery-storage systems.

The research, led by Associate Professor Brian Stone, shows that expected levels of CO 2 emissions from cars and trucks in 2050 could be reduced back to close to 2000 levels if the full vehicle fleet was converted to hybrid electric vehicles—a greater reduction in CO 2 emissions than achieved by two smart growth scenario modelled in the study.

The new C5 FUEL yeast delivers fermentation and ethanol yields that set a new standard for conversion of biomass sugars from pretreated corn stover, converting up to 97% of the plant sugars into fuel, the researchers said. The results were presented at the 31 st International Fuel Ethanol Workshop this week in Minneapolis.
