Open Source Civic EV Kit

After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. With rising gasoline prices, I believe the demand for freeway capable electric vehicles is going to increase over the next few years.

Light-duty diesel vehicles with 2009 MY or later compliant emissions if replacing gasoline powered vehicles and in conjunction with biodiesel fuel use. Marine applications and locomotives are not eligible under this FOA, nor are prototype or novelty vehicles, golf carts, snowmobiles and other off-road recreational or sport vehicles.

The RPM stays constant when I "coast" unlike a gasoline engine which tends to slowly drift back to "idle." I'm not sure how much current these golf cart batteries are designed for. Shifting was a real pain on city streets since the electric motor changes RPM very quickly during acceleration or regeneration.

Gasoline is burnt up and gone forever into the atmosphere and into our lungs. In most conversions cost is about the same because of needless weight. Even if you charge your EV with electricity made from coal fired generators you reduce your car’s pollution by half. If you charge with solar, is way less.
