A Concept ActiveE is in the background. The BMW Group has been gathering insights into the day-to-day use of electric vehicles since mid-2009, when it launched a global field test involving more than 600 MINI E models. During the test phase some 50 MINI E cars are also being delivered to customers in China in 2010.

The concept announced at EVS29 is the first market-ready home storage system using a second-life automotive BMW i3 high-voltage battery integrated by BECK Automation (Würzburg, Germany). In 2011, batteries which were previously used in the MINI E test fleet were successfully implemented in a stationary project.

The BMW Brilliance plug-in hybrid concept. have presented a concept plug-in hybrid sedan based on the long wheelbase version of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. The electrical motor draws its energy from a high-voltage battery pack, housed in the luggage compartment, which can be charged via the grid. Click to enlarge.

The ultimate goal is the concept of a Megacity Vehicle, the BMW i3 that meets the demands of a sustainable mobility solution for congested urban areas. Ongoing field tests involving more than 600 MINI E cars, including 450 in the US, have already provided knowledge about the demands on future electrically powered production vehicles.

The ultimate goal is the concept of a Megacity Vehicle (MCV) that meets the demands of a sustainable mobility solution for congested urban areas. The feedback from customers testing the MINI E and the BMW ActiveE will be fed directly into series production of the MCV, which the BMW Group will be launching under a new sub-brand in 2013.

BMW has introduced the Concept ActiveE, the latest electric vehicle project under BMW Group’s initiative to produce vehicles that explore solutions to minimize environmental impacts while preserving the kinetic driving experience for which BMW has long been known—the i Megacity Vehicle initiative.
