DOE awarding ~$44M to seven carbon capture projects

Green Car Congress

capture system at an existing coal-fueled generating unit. The objectives are to address concerns related to scale-up and integration of the technology in coal-based power plants. The projects will target one of two areas: 1) engineering-scale testing of transformational solvent- or membrane-based carbon dioxide (CO?)

DOE to award up to $14M to 6 new projects to advance IGCC with carbon capture technology for coal-fired plants

Green Car Congress

The selected projects are intended to improve the economics of IGCC plants and promote the use of the US’abundant coal resources. Higher efficiencies mean that less fuel is used to generate power, in turn resulting in better economics, which can mean lower costs to consumers and the formation of fewer harmful pollutants.

Coal Into Cars: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

Plugs and Cars

The Ugly Coal sucks, there's really no two ways about it. It should be perhaps our last fuel of choice regardless of how it's used. But not all use of coal is alike. The Good About half our electricity comes from coal, and that will change, at best, slowly as we move to renewables. Support knows no party.

Chilled Ammonia Pilot Project Captures 90% of CO2

Green Car Congress

A pilot project by We Energies, Alstom and The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) testing an Alstom advanced chilled ammonia process ( earlier post ) has demonstrated more than 90% capture of carbon dioxide from the flue stream of a coal-fueled power plant in Wisconsin (the Pleasant Prairie Carbon Capture Pilot Plant ).
