ICCT life-cycle analysis finds no climate benefit in using LNG as marine fuel

Green Car Congress

The results of a new analysis by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) show that, when combined with a trend toward higher methane leakage and combustion slip, there is no climate benefit from using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel—regardless of the engine technology. New study finds GHG emissions from palm oil production significantly underestimated; palm oil biofuels could be more climate-damaging than oil sands fuels

Green Car Congress

Mha (20%) of the peatlands of Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo in 2010, surpassing the area of Belgium and causing an annual carbon emission from peat decomposition of 230–310 Mt CO 2 e. Despite increasing awareness of climate change in that period, the rate of peat destruction was higher in this last 3 year period than ever before.

Neste-led project verified 50% methane emission reduction at palm oil mills using belt filter press

Green Car Congress

Neste has been exploring ways to contribute to improving palm oil industry’s environmental performance, particularly how to further reduce greenhouse gas emission from palm oil production. In Indonesia and Malaysia, for example, approximately 70% of palm oil is produced without methane reduction methods. —Annamari Enström.

SGH2 building largest green hydrogen production facility in California; gasification of waste into H2

Green Car Congress

SGH2’s gasification process uses a plasma-enhanced thermal catalytic conversion process optimized with oxygen-enriched gas. The end result is high purity hydrogen and a small amount of biogenic carbon dioxide, which is not additive to greenhouse gas emissions. That’s why our partnership with SGH2 is so important.
