Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, and the Chair of the California Air Resources Board, Mary Nichols, today signed a new cooperation agreement to advance cleaner vehicles and fuels. Combined, these states and California constitute more than 40% of the US passenger vehicle market.

Currently, nine states have done so: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The 2012 changes established a new optional Section 177 State compliance path.

His people at MidAmerican have studied clean technologies like batteries and wind power for years because of the threat of climate change. Wang signed an agreement last year with Autobinck, a Dutch dealer group, to distribute its cars in the Netherlands and five Eastern European countries. Electric cars will be one answer.
