Greenville County, South Carolina and Light’N’Up, deployed 15 propane Autogas vehicles last month as part of a large-scale, Recovery Act-funded alternative fuel vehicle project in the Southeast United States. Greenville County and Light’N’Up are two of nine conversion centers participating in the project.

The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) and Virginia Clean Cities (VCC) at James Madison University (JMU) are requesting proposals from fleets in the southeastern US interested in converting eligible gasoline vehicles to run on propane autogas. All eligible public or private fleet operations are welcome to apply.

Since that time, the company has more than doubled its hydrogen-fuel cell fleet to approximately 230 units to service the entire plant’s production and logistics functions. The project has now successfully moved to the second phase of methane-to-hydrogen conversion.

This project will deploy 35 fuel cell systems as battery replacements for a complete fleet of electric lift trucks at FedEx’s existing service center in Springfield, Missouri. Success at this service center will lead to further fleet conversions at some or all of FedEx’s other 470 service centers. Jadoo Power (Folsom, CA).

If successful, the follow-up phases of the project will provide infrastructure for using this hydrogen to fuel the company’s entire fleet of material handling equipment. The first phase of this multi-phase project will be funded by SCRA (South Carolina Research Authority). and the South Carolina Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Alliance.
