The team’s first step in February 2018 was to use GRIDSMART cameras to create an image dataset of vehicle classes. Once vehicle-classification labels were applied using commercial software, and DOE fuel-economy estimates added, the team had a unique dataset to train a convolutional neural network for vehicle identification.
