It was the first time Chicago has hosted a street race for a major racing series in the modern era – and while we’re on the topic of firsts, what’s billed as the first-ever American auto race took place on the streets of the city and nearby Evanston in 1895. Based on what I saw, most of those concerns were either unfounded or overblown.

In less than four months, Maven, General Motors’ personal mobility brand ( earlier post ), has grown to five markets: New York City, Ann Arbor, Mich., and is adding Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C. In Chicago, the Maven City car sharing program is now in operation, with pricing starting at $8 an hour including insurance and fuel.

It's not just NorCal -- I sometimes spot some pretty cool iron in my neighborhood, and while the part of Chicago I live in is nice enough, it's not exactly a moneyed part of the downtown or anything. Personally, I just keep my eyes peeled. In other words, you don't have to be in an exclusive ZIP code to see cool stuff.
