Cadillac’s Subcompact SUV The 2024 Cadillac XT4 is smack dab in the heat of the subcompact premium/luxury SUV category. It is the third best-selling SUV for Cadillac, coming in behind the larger Escalade and XT5, but ahead of the XT6 and Lyriq EV. All of them outsell the Cadillac luxury sedans. Let’s take a look.

In February, the leader was the Volvo XC40 PHEV, scoring its second win in a row, this time with 231 units, while its BEV twin was 5th, with 114 registrations, both helping the Swedish SUV to become the 3rd best selling model in the overall market (#1 Ford Fiesta; #2 Kia Picanto), as 59% of the smaller Volvo registrations came from these two.

The redesigned front has a new diamond-pattern grille and fascia that house chevron-shaped LED daytime running lights and fog lamps. In the rear the horizontal LED taillights have a bold design, with a faux skid plate and more chevron-shaped back-up lights. Stylish lines. My tester’s Deep Cerulean color elicited complements.

In my rear view mirror I watched a Los Angeles Sheriff’s car pull out of the Chevron and turn on both its blue and red flashing lights to pursue me down Ventura Boulevard. The Roadster is faster then anything on the road, including the young guy in a fuel cell SUV who improbably challenged me to a Saturday night race on Hollywood Blvd.
