There are digital side mirrors, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality to charge/power your electric devices, active air flaps in the lower bumper, 700 Parametric Pixels (all those cool lights) in and around the car, 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, 12-inch digital driver display and dual colour ambient lighting with choice of 64 different hues.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do for balancing as anything on the market is not cheap. This looks much cooler in person but thought I'd add a shot with most of the cells now shunting. Lots of red and green lights. Dimitri and Jim have ordered their DIY kits and will hopefully have them up and running soon.

Then its stylishly integrated door handles, giant 21-inch five-spoke alloys, clamshell bonnet and strikingly detailed LED lights everywhere (I don’t want to think about their replacement cost). There’s serious intricacy to much of the body design – especially around its sculpted, light fantastic rear end. Theatrical inside too. .

None of this quartet is cheap, but all are towards the value end of the EV market. It’s fine up front, each person cocooned in an upmarket cabin with seats that hug in all the right places. Ambient lighting glows around the wood finishes and the door handles reinforce the tactility and attention to detail.

I would say that electricity is a vastly superior fuel for the light vehicle fleet,” said Willett Kempton , a professor and alternative energy specialist at the University of Delaware.
