It has now re-established it as an electrified sub-brand of GMC. But it’s the EV we’re most interested because it will likely use the 800V electrical architecture from the Kia EV6 and EV9. Since 2020 Toyota and mining giant BHP have been testing a LandCruiser 70-Series converted to electricity by Tembo e-LV locally.

A team of researchers at MIT and Tsinghua University has developed a high-rate, high-capacity and long-lived anode for Li-ion batteries comprising a yolk-shell nanocomposite of aluminum core (30 nm in diameter) and TiO 2 shell (~3 nm in thickness), with a tunable interspace (Al@TiO 2 , or ATO). The charge/discharge rate was set at 1 C.

The company is currently focusing on plans to plug the gap between the current market and a future when electric cars hit the mainstream, by converting Lotus Elises and Volkswagen (VW) Golfs to electric power. Converting Lotuses is expensive, he says, but you have to start somewhere. The longer term plan is to import electric cars.

Finally, in a first-of-its-kind partnership in the United States, Mitsubishi announced a strategic alliance with Oregon to develop an electric car charging infrastructure in the state. If these companies are ultimately successful and can convince EV manufacturers to ditch lithuim ion, we could depend on the already robust recycling program.
