EPA projects advanced transmissions (6+ speeds and CVTs), gasoline direct injection (GDI) systems, and turbocharged engines will be installed on at least 15% of all MY 2013 vehicles. The majority of the emissions and fuel savings from current vehicles, EPA noted, is due to new gasoline vehicle technologies.

In a pre-response to that speech, having successfully advocated for plug-in hybrids like the forthcoming Chevy Volt, we propose that the President follow that speech up with a “realistic and conservative” roadmap to halve our oil use in 10 years. It helps that the auto industry will be building more efficient new vehicles.

Interestingly enough, the Automotive Class is "into" the study of hybrids at this time. A plug and a pack can make a car a 101 MPG vehicle aided by electricity. ! The vast majority of Americans drive to work, but even the threat of higher gas prices doesn’t seem to be encouraging them much to carpool, take public transportation or buy an energy-efficient hybrid car, according to a new Rasmussen survey. Government workers are four times as likely as those who work in the private sector to buy a hybrid.
