The K9M 40-foot buses are part of the airport’s fleet of “terminal-to- terminal” shuttles used to transport passengers between the international and domestic terminals, and from the international terminal to the Rental Car Center. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has aded two BYD battery-electric buses.

This reporter recalls a presentation from the long-vanished British firm Modec, a startup making light delivery vans, which said even back in 2009 that fleet managers would see a lifetime payback on what were then very expensive BEV cargo vans. In a recent press release, the Leawood Police Department in Kansas announced that it had acquired a Tesla Model Y Long Range for its fleet. The vehicle would be used as one of the Leawood PD’s patrol cars. Captain Kirt Yoder, the agency’s project manager, noted that Tesla Kansas had been quite helpful.

Ford says that the new Transit, which begins production in Kansas City in 2013, will achieve at least 25% better fuel economy than current E-Series vans.
