Plug-in cars are inevitable. Nissan appears intent on opening up a market for mid-price range electric cars within two years. Veteran automakers, oil companies, and federal and state governments have been both the prime movers and obstacles to plug-in cars in the past and they remain so today. GM waxed hot and cold on the EV1.

Factory Zero has gone through a $2 billion conversion, and it is expected to produce several all-electric cars, starting with the GMC Hummer EV, a hulking zero-emissions pickup truck which, ironically, would (mostly) not be included in the Biden administration’s planned EV tax credit program.
