The concept behind V2G had gained traction in the late 1990s after California’s landmark zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) mandate went into effect and compelled automakers to commercialize electric cars. For the utilities, it promised an economical way of meeting rising demand for electricity.

I wrote back in December about my unhappy experience attempting to charge my loaner LEAF at San Francisco City Hall's electric car charging stations. Parking in these Coulomb charge stations is restricted to city-owned vehicles and Car Share companies under threat of towing. A threat taken seriously in San Francisco.

It's official, the Cadillac Converj is to be the second extended-range electric vehicle after the Volt. I may be most interested affordable electric cars, but this makes sense to me. I only wish GM had the smarts back in the day to have rebranded the EV1 as a Caddy and continued limited run production.

The article is often carried by lots of media who will point to this breakthrough as something that has an impact on electric vehicles. The EV discussion groups take this up and, with huge amounts of optimism, tell us that we will soon have the ability to instantly charge our electric cars at home or on the highway.
