BMW is hoping to take some of the shine off of Tesla’s crown with a new incentive that gives buyers a $1,000 discount to buy one of its new EVs. Cars Direct reported that the BMW 2024 BEV Conquest Program includes several other brands, including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Porsche, Rivian, and Lucid.

The loophole identified by Bloomberg’s newest report is leasing. By choosing to lease a selected EV instead of purchasing it outright, a car buyer can still receive a full EV incentive for vehicles that would, under the new battery sourcing requirements, not qualify for the full amount or no incentive at all.

The best selling car in May was the Tesla Model Y. 4 in third, at 837 units. Two other local models, the Polestar 2, and the Volvo C40 filled out the top 5 spots. There was no other significant news in the top 20. Tesla is playing ball, with its Model Y splash page highlighting business leasing packages.
