Fuel economy for the 2022 UX 250h, which runs on 87 octane gasoline, is EPA rated at 41 mpg city/38 highway/39 combined, but in the Eco drive mode our time traversing Southern California highways covered 221 miles at an average of 42.7 mpg, and on short in-town runs I was getting in excess of 50 mpg.

Using 87 octane fuel, the engine and transmission combination earned an EPA fuel economy rating of 36 mpg city/36 highway/36 combined. In 313 miles of driving through Southern California we averaged 35.6 The nickel metal hydride battery is charged when applying the brakes or coasting. Your numbers may differ.

The Gen III Prius offers an EPA-rated combined cycle fuel economy of 50 mpg (now revealed to comprise 50 mpg city and 49 mpg highway). The 2ZR-FXE engine is SULEV-rated (with AT-PZEV) in California, and has a Federal Tier 2 Bin 3 rating. Nominal pack voltage of the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery remains at 201.6

We now have three working converted prototypes (both described in Fact Sheet above, shown in photos and here ): The Calcars first proof-of-concept: (100+ mpg plus electricity, 10-mile electric range, now with temporary lead-acid battery pack, soon to be replaced by nickel metal-hydride batteries).

When fully charged, the vehicle is targeted to achieve a maximum electric-only range of approximately 13 miles and will be capable of achieving highway speeds up to 60 mph in electric-only mode. Lentz said that advanced electric drive vehicles—battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles—both face challenges including cost, fueling infrastructure and range. And then there is range. The cost of lithium ion batteries…needs to be reduced significantly…or a more affordable alternative developed.
