The California Energy Commission has awarded GTI and Sierra Northern Railway nearly $4,000,000 to fund the design, integration, and demonstration of a hydrogen fuel cell switching locomotive to support the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstrations in Rail and Marine Applications at Ports (H2RAM) initiative.

At full build out, Pasha will be the world’s first marine terminal able to generate all of its energy needs from renewable sources.

The selected OPEN 2018 projects are in 21 states and fall into 9 technical categories, including transportation, electricity generation and delivery, and energy efficiency. . Electric motor-generators on each crankshaft will improve engine efficiency by modifying the piston dynamics and resulting combustion process.
