The case for using Power-to-Gas solutions to store renewable energy is compelling for a number of important use cases, according to a new white paper released by the California Hydrogen Business Council (CHBC). Among the paper’s conclusions is that a robust P2G RD&D program should be a priority for the state of California.

In a recent vote, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) authorized Southern California Edison (SCE) to procure between 1,400 and 1,800 megawatts (MW) of electrical capacity in the Los Angeles basin. Among the requirements of the decision is that at least 50 MW must be procured from energy storage resources.
