The Motor Trade Association of South Australia has procured a Toyota Prius which has been upfitted with an aftermarket plug-in conversion, as part of its plans to develop hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicle training resources for automotive repair technicians throughout the state of South Australia.

It want CARB to authorize aftermarket conversions of hybrids with its Lithium batteries.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.

We now have three working converted prototypes (both described in Fact Sheet above, shown in photos and here ): The Calcars first proof-of-concept: (100+ mpg plus electricity, 10-mile electric range, now with temporary lead-acid battery pack, soon to be replaced by nickel metal-hydride batteries). Jerry gave a comprehensive overview of the conversion technology used in the Spirit of DC, including the lead-acid battery pack module installation from Plug-In Supply in Santa Rosa, California. A hydraulic lift assembly for the 300 lb. LiFeBATT USA distributes Lithium Iron Phosphate battery modules that are manufactured in Taiwan.

That’s certainly the case here in Torrance, California where I live and work. We’ve now got some Mo going with: California solar loan financing that will eliminate the big up front cost of solar. Most have no idea. The good news is that positive things ARE happening and our efforts are starting to make a difference.
