SUNMOOV’, part of the “Lyon Smart Community” demonstration project led jointly by Grand Lyon and Japan’s NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), will use carbon-neutral energy and charging stations, which will be fully powered by renewable energy, supplied by the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône.

The chargers will incorporate TEPCO’s patented technology and be capable of charging vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Plug-In Stella by Subaru within less than half an hour. Aker Wade Power Technologies designs and manufactures advanced fast charging systems for electric vehicles and industrial forklifts.

The SSI study captures 12 different PEV models from eight vehicle manufacturers, including GM (Chevrolet Volt); Nissan (LEAF); Tesla (Model S); Ford (Focus EV, C-Max Energi and Fusion Energi); Honda (Fit EV and Accord PHEV); Toyota (Prius Plug-in and RAV4 EV); Mitsubishi (i-MiEV); and Daimler (Smart Fortwo ED).

With few of us having the cash or credit to buy an expensive new addition, the bottom seems to have fallen out of the automotive industry which has been plunged into crisis. With the Nissan LEAF still around a year away from hitting the streets, Mitsubishi has stolen a march on its rival by introducing the i-MiEV in Japan (see article ).

At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV, only here because SCE is testing it. It’s in fleet lease use in Japan already and I have confidence they’ll be producing them and selling them to actual people.
