But very few consumers will come up with BrightDrop , the name GM has given to a new unit that builds electric commercial vehicles: full-size vans and even electric cargo containers. Thus, the restructured GM was composed of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, while the Hummer, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn brands died. Why not GMC?

All the wind farms and solar panels in the world won’t do anything to lower the outflow of hundreds billions of dollars annually or decrease our pump-fueled funding of Islamic fundamentalism unless we build cars that can use that cleaner electricity. I wish I knew what’s holding Gore back from full-throated support for plug-in cars.

Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of driving a Toyota Rav-4 EV conversion. The keys will likely be handed to me (and EV1 co-veteran Linda Nicholes) by Bob Sexton, the very mechanic who rotated the tires of our EV1s at Saturn Marina del Rey back in 1998. But this week takes me right back to car heaven. I am very very lucky!

For people looking for the most effective way to end our addiction to oil, PHEVs have made sense because carmakers can build them now, with todays technology and using todays infrastructure. They reinforce the Pacific National Labs January 2007 findings that we wont have to build new power plants for cars that charge at night.
