Although lithium-ion cell and pack costs are expected to fall sharply by 2020, they are unlikely to drop enough to support widespread adoption of fully electric vehicles without a major breakthrough in battery technology, according to a new study by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. One wonders if the recent headway at MIT in building lithium ion cells using ?virus? The car is expected to cost around $40,000. Interesting in any case.
