Speaking on the future of powertrains at the Aachen Colloquium, Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management at BMW AG, Development, said that BMW will enter the fuel cell market early in the next decade, starting with very small production runs. BMW Group is planning more models with electric drive systems in the future.

The cars included a 2018 BMW i3, 2018 Chevy Bolt, 2018 Nissan LEAF, 2017 Tesla Model S 75D, and 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf. At 20 degrees : EVs experienced a 12% decrease in driving range without the heater; a 41% decrease with the heater. ? This concept holds true for gas and diesel-powered vehicles too.

The PHEV does not require the heavy, costly batteries required by other electric cars, nor does it suffer from a limited range or poor freeway performance. Though the PHEV combines the two types of energy and power, it is not merely a temporary “transition” between gasoline and diesel cars to pure electric cars.

Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait. o well I guess they think all yanks hate diesels. hopefully diesel prices will dip below regular since they finished all of the low sulfur diesel producing plants. and 49 mpg.

The vans themselves are based on the concept Town and Country EV that was unveiled last Fall by Chrysler. However, because of the duty cycle used by the Postal Service, which generally amounts to only about 18-20 miles per day on a fixed route, these vehicles are being built without the range extender seen on the concept.

Gallery: Plugging in at home Battery swap stations are a concept often associated with Better Place , an EV infrastructure company. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. The modular concept also allows scalability even within your own car.
