After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. There are already commercially available kits with excellent, detailed instructions for how to convert a vehicle.

Yesterday, our man Matt Posky ably wrote about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R and its record-setting lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, circling the Green Hell in 7:44.881, enough to best the 2019 Renault Mégane R.S. It is the latter which is standard kit on the R, though the ones used in the record are available through Honda dealers.

Acura has finally announced pricing for the new 2024 Integra Type S and it has predictably come out as more expensive than the Honda Civic Type R with a starting MSRP of $51,995. As previously mentioned, both vehicles run the K20C1 inline four-cylinder engine, which yields 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on the Honda.

My blog unearthed a lot of the inner workings on that vehicle. My ramblings on the 2022 EV scene I have an electric cycle, which is an eAdicct conversion kit added to a Schnell 26 inch cycle. I really appreciated the high-quality parts and detailed instructions provided by Electro Automotive with their 914 kit. You probably won't see much more activity on this blog in the upcoming months as I focus on developing an open-source EV kit for a '92-'95 Honda Civic. Cheers, Tim.

I've mentioned before that I'm working on an open-source EV kit. Today I drove out to the U-Pull-It wrecking center and took a bunch of pictures of '92-'95 Honda Civics to see how I could design battery racks for them. The 914ev blog might be winding down as I put more time and energy into the open-source project with its own blog.
