In 2025, Volvo Group’s truck plant in Ghent, Belgium will start to produce battery modules. The investment decision to install battery module manufacturing capacity in Ghent is another important step for the Volvo Group to shape its future value chain for battery systems. To date, partners supply both cells and modules to the Group.

This collaboration is in line with the implementation of the DAFI Directive (Directive 2014/94 - Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructures), with a particular focus on certain countries and regions, starting from Wallonia, Belgium. Together, FCA and IVECO intend to further develop their ranges of natural gas vehicles.

The Volvo C30 Electric will be manufactured and delivered to leasing customers throughout Europe, including in Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway. Tests on a fleet of about 50 cars have been conducted since autumn 2010, mainly internally at the Volvo Car Corporation. As a result, the luggage compartment is unchanged.

With its automated rooftop connection and a typical charge time of 4–6 minutes, the system can easily be integrated in existing bus lines by installing fast chargers at end points, terminals, depots and/or intermediate stops. ABB is introducing an automated fast charging system which allows electric city buses to drive 24/7.

In February, a new Iranian factory was inaugurated, indicating the start of installation of facilities for mass production.

In the US, the Rampart Casino / Resort in Las Vegas installed a Coulomb networked charging station for electric vehicles.
