The project aims to build and demonstrate a 27-ton rigid hydrogen fuel cell truck along with a mobile refueler. Heavy-duty distribution vehicles with a fuel cell range extender—while not yet commercially available in the EU—are demonstrated in H2-Share and their potential is assessed in this project by TNO.

Biocrudes from three representative feedstocks—Spirulina (micro-algae), sewage sludge, and wheat straw—were further upgraded to a mixture of hydrocarbon fuels at Aalborg University (Denmark). Analyses of the kerosene fractions of the upgraded biocrude show promising compositions for a use as aviation fuel.

To produce hydrogen, it utilizes electricity to split water molecules (H 2 O) into hydrogen (H 2 ) and oxygen (O 2 ). The cathode splits water molecules, via reduction, into hydrogen and oxide ions, after which the oxide ions are transported through the electrolyte to the anode and oxidized into oxygen.

LanzaTech has been selected by the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) to receive a $4-million award to design and plan a demonstration-scale facility using industrial off gases to produce 3 million gallons/year of low-carbon jet and diesel fuels. 95% of hydrogen is currently produced from fossil fuels. Unlike this method, Hynamics has opted for water electrolysis to produce its hydrogen, a technology that does not emit very much CO 2 at all, as long as the electricity used itself comes from low-carbon production methods.
