Recent developments in lithium ion batteries, and the consequential range improvements of EVs has significantly dampened enthusiasm for hydrogen fuel cells. The Honda FCX Clarity FCEV and the Toyota Mirai FCEV, both use an electric drive motor and a battery pack. So why haven’t FCEV becoming as prolific as other electric cars?

Unlike battery-powered electric vehicles, FCEVs can go over 500 kilometers on a full tank of hydrogen and can be refueled in 2-3 minutes, exactly like regular petrol/diesel cars. Unlike Lithium, hydrogen is the most plentiful element in the universe ( Lithium is the key component in electric vehicle batteries).

And EV straggler Honda shed a bit more light on its upcoming EVs built on GM’s Ultium battery and powertrain platform.

Honda Sees PHEVs as having "unnecessary fuel engine and fuel tank;" promises all-electrics "assuming we can come up with a really high-performing battery that we are working on currently." 10/23/07 Honda Motor Co. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Sorry the market killed the EV1. you see that?
