Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell cannot stop this; they will begin to bleed trillions of miles per year. They had better think seriously about financing solar and wind arrays. During the midday hours, many grids will experience negative pricing as solar PV floods the market to the extent that the power cannot be stored.

I suspect without some explicit direction from the top, prodded from those of us below, the automakers will do everything to achieve the requirements with conventional vehicles, eschewing the greater near term cost and long-term benefit of transitioning toward plug-in electric drive components and batteries. Such as the $1.1 No plug, no deal!

April 10, 2009 10:09 am Link It amazes me that in the vast debate about electric cars world wide including here in Norway, no one ever mention the fact that the batteries in such cars need replacement in no more than five years. So imagine a million electric cars on US roads which all need to change these batteries in say 2015.
